Samant was estabilished with a staff of over 330 people. It was hailed as the flagship company of Mantua. At the onset, the company specialised in raincoats.
World War II was long over, and yet the Italian industry, including that of textiles, was still feeling the repercussions. It looked like the company would have to close its doors, but instead Claudio and Carlalberto Corneliani decided to bring the company further up to date. They worked with drive and tenacity, qualities that had passed down through the generations of the Corneliani family.
There are times when having a smarter image can be an asset. The economic boom was one such time. Italy was picking up again, and there was optimism that things would improve.
The balance sheets were getting stronger and the company was developing the hallmark of a unique style synonymous with good taste, quality and refinement. Claudio and Carlalberto were driving the company's growth.
Claudio and Carlalberto built a new factory, taking on 720 employees. At the time they were hailed as forward-looking and setting a new standard. Production reached one million garments.
Corneliani acquired Montefibre, the Abital Company in Verona. The Group became even stronger.
The New York branch was opened, without however once forgetting the company's Mantuan roots. The registered office and operations remained in fact in the hometown.
There are important common traits between art and fashion: personality, study and passion. This is why Corneliani came up with projects that combined sartorial art with art for pleasure, like the "I manifesti e la moda" (Posters and Fashion) Corneliani Award, sponsored by the Accademia di Brera and the Scuola d’Arte e Messaggio of Milan, and the "Dieci Nobel per il futuro" (Ten Nobel Prizes for the Future).
New York, Tokyo, Paris, Milan, London and Bombay. The historical images that had defined the company's style were shown on the occasion of the company's 50th anniversary, attended by over 800 international guests. It was held during the Pitti Immagine Uomo.
